Director, Technical Accounting

JOB SCOPE:

This individual works independently under minimal supervision, applying comprehensive knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures to complete job responsibilities. The Director acts as a resource for senior leadership and is relied upon as the subject matter expert in the field. This position requires regular liaison with colleagues at all levels of the organizational structure. This is a senior managerial position with authority for all HR actions (hiring, terminations, discipline, training, etc.).

DUTIES:

1. Serve as the company's internal expert on U.S. GAAP, providing guidance on complex accounting topics including revenue recognition, leases, business combinations, and stock-based compensation.
2. Lead the technical evaluation and documentation of customer and partner contracts under ASC 606, including identification of performance obligations, variable consideration, contract modifications, and principal vs. agent assessments.
3. Draft detailed technical accounting memos and white papers supporting the company's positions on key accounting judgments.
4. Collaborate cross-functionally with Legal, Sales, FP&A, Operations, and IT to assess and document accounting implications of new business initiatives and transactions.
5. Monitor emerging accounting standards and regulatory developments; lead implementation of applicable changes across the organization.
6. Support external financial reporting and disclosures, including SEC filings (e.g., 10-K, 10-Q), if applicable.
7. Partner with external auditors to address technical matters and support audit processes.
8. Prepare and present technical accounting conclusions and policy recommendations to senior management and the Audit Committee, supporting transparent and informed decision-making.
9. Help maintain and improve internal controls related to technical accounting areas, ensuring compliance with SOX.
10. Educate internal teams on technical accounting policies and drive consistency in accounting treatment across the business.
11. Contribute to process improvement initiatives aimed at scaling technical accounting and reporting capabilities in a growing environment.
12. Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and requirements.
13. Demonstrate commitment to the company's core values.
14. Due to the exposure to PHI sensitive data, this role is considered to be a High-Risk Role.
15. Select, develop, and evaluate staff to ensure the efficient operation of department.
16. Collaborate, coordinate, and communicate across disciplines and departments.
17. Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and requirements.
18. Demonstrate Company's Core Competencies and values held within.

COMPENSATION

The salary range for this position is $150k-$175k. Specific offers take into account a candidate’s education, experience and skills, as well as the candidate’s work location and internal equity.  This position is also eligible for health insurance, 401k and bonus opportunity.

Job Requirements:

JOB REQUIREMENTS (Education, Experience, and Training):

* Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Master's or MBA a plus.
* CPA required.
* 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including Big 4 public accounting and/or industry technical accounting roles.
* Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, with deep hands-on experience in ASC 606 (Revenue Recognition) and familiarity with ASC 842, ASC 805, and ASC 718.
* Experience supporting SEC reporting and internal controls (SOX).
* Excellent research, analytical, and communication skills with a proven ability to interpret and apply complex accounting guidance.
* Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
* Collaborative and proactive approach, with the ability to influence stakeholders across departments.
* Experience in a high-growth, public, or pre-IPO environment is a plus.
* Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from the board of directors, senior leadership, or other members of the organizational structure.
* Ability to work well both independently and as a member of a team.
* The individual in this position must be able to work in a standard office environment, which requires sitting and viewing monitors for extended periods, and operating standard office equipment such as a keyboard, copier, and telephone.
